Best of Tips from a CEO

My basic attitude, with which I have made it to business success, is very simple: If you do what you love, you will be successful. I live and work exactly according to this attitude. I love my job, I love my company and I work goal-oriented and passionately, while I am constantly developing myself and my company. In the following article, I’ll give you a few basic tips that have helped me to be successful as a CEO.

Do you love what you are doing?

The simplest basic rule to be successful in business is: Do you love your job? The answer should be: Yes, I do.

I am convinced that you can only be really successful if you are passionate about what you do. There are many people who just do their job because they have to do it and because they see it as their duty. They are not doing their job with passion. People who see their job not only as a daily duty or as a source of money, sometimes work beyond what is expected and get more involved because they identify with the company or the philosophy of the company. That´s the reason you are ready to give more. This attitude also benefits you when it comes to success. If you can answer “yes” to the question of whether you love what you do, you are already on the right track.

Know your strengths - and your weaknesses

A good self-assessment is extremely important in order to be successful in the long term. For a good self-assessment, you get to know your own strengths in the course of your professional career, and in the best case also your own weaknesses. Overconfidence can lead to risky decisions and underestimating yourself will probably never get you the desired fee for the work you do. Appraisal interviews, leadership workshops and feedback interviews in general are very important and help to learn to assess yourself better and more realistically. I am still constantly working on my self-assessment by holding regular feedback discussions and thus getting a realistic picture reflected.

Make yourself a plan

Without a pre-defined plan, you can quickly get lost in your business goals and in your work. It helps a lot to make a plan for yourself by precisely defining: What do I want? How do I get there? What’s my timeline like?

Develop yourself continuously & stay interested

Don’t rest on your success. If you have made it to a successful position or you are in a leadership position yourself, you should never rest on what you have achieved. The business world is constantly evolving and that’s exactly what you should do yourself. Especially in our fast-paced and digital times, it is very important to always be up to date.

There are platforms that help you to stay informed about topics that are of your own interest or benefit. Spreading your interests broadly is very helpful. Another important aspect of staying up to date is communicating with social contacts. Hence another important piece of advice from me

Keep on Networking

In my blog article on ‘networking’ I give tips on how best to build a good network. In this section I want to write about how important it is to maintain the network that has been established. It´s all about communication. The exchange with people helps to stay on the ball, can help to get hold of new projects and is extremely important for the reach. I network all the time. Be it via social media, by giving interviews or by meeting new people at events. I keep in touch with my network on a regular basis. I love exchanging ideas with other people. It protects against thinking too narrowly in my own circle of thoughts and regularly gives me new motivation. Building a network is the preparatory work, maintaining the network is an ongoing task that should not be neglected.

Be ready to invest more

If you are willing to invest, whether it is time or money, the chances are higher that you will become more successful. Of course, you have to be careful that your work-life balance is not neglected - I write about this in detail in my blog article: The truth about a CEO’s work-life balance – but in order to achieve all that you want, it helps to be super committed. Which brings us back to the conclusion at the beginning of the article, it’s a lot easier to invest more when you love what you do.

Never give up and learn from your mistakes

Everyone makes mistakes. We have probably all heard this sentence before. And there is a lot of truth behind these words: We all make mistakes. The most important question you have to ask yourself is: What do I learn from my mistakes? Only when I reflect on that I can do better next time. First of all, it is an important step to admit mistakes to yourself. The next step in making you more successful is not to repeat these mistakes. We take a learning curve with us from every mistake. If we manage to see and accept these learnings as something positive, we are not only more open and generous towards others, we also strengthen our self-assessment. And, as we know, this is very important in order to work well reflected.

Finally, my most important tip is: Don’t give up!

You can and may fail from time to time, it is important to continue or to think of solutions as to how things can go on better. In summary: get help, allow advice and always believe in yourself. If you manage to work according to these principles, nothing should really go wrong. I wish you great success!
